Organising flights for a sales team, a school trip or a club tour to Istanbul raises the same question every time: book ten people one by one, or make a group booking? Airlines have already answered it. Above a certain size a party becomes a group and is sold under its own rules, which decide when names are due, how long a price is held and what happens if someone drops out. Below are the rules Turkish Airlines and Pegasus publish, as we read them on 7 November 2026.
What counts as a group
Both airlines draw the line at 10 passengers. Under the rules Turkish Airlines publishes for travel agencies, 10 or more passengers travelling together on the same itinerary form a group. Pegasus sells groups of 10 to 25 on its own website, asks for a request form from 26 passengers and gives a group fare to no more than 100 passengers on a single flight.
A party of nine is not a group. Those tickets are bought at individual fares, and everyone pays the same only if enough seats are left in the same fare class.
Turkish Airlines and Pegasus compared
| Topic | Turkish Airlines (agency rules) | Pegasus |
|---|---|---|
| Group size | 10 or more on the same itinerary | 10-25 online, 26 and over by request form, up to 100 per flight |
| How to ask | Local sales office or an agency | Website or group request form, one fare for everyone |
| Name list | Complete 30 days before the flight | Entered before the option expires, no tickets without names |
| Name changes | Depends on the booking, ask the issuing agency | Free up to 48 hours before departure |
| If the option lapses | Unticketed bookings are cancelled without notice | Payment due by the option date the system gives |
| Reducing numbers | Depends on the booking, ask the issuing agency | Down to a minimum of 10 |
The Turkish Airlines rules come from the page the airline publishes for agencies, and they apply whichever agency issues your tickets. AJet and SunExpress also take group requests. We have not summarised their conditions here and check the current rules with each airline when a request comes in.
Option deadlines
An option is the time an airline holds a price and seats before tickets are issued. Its length depends on the airline, the date and the booking, and a deadline comes with the quote. If tickets are not issued by then, the seats go back on sale. Turkish Airlines is explicit with agencies: when no ticket is reported by the end of the option, every segment of the booking is cancelled without further notice.
Build your approval and payment around that date. If your purchasing sign-off takes three days, a two-day option will not work. Say so when you ask for the quote.
Name lists and name changes
You can hold a group fare without names, but you cannot ticket without them. Pegasus needs every name before the option expires. Turkish Airlines expects the full name list 30 days before the flight.
Pegasus allows free name changes up to 48 hours before departure, made through its group sales support team. School and club groups often change names in the final week. Before you finalise the list, check each name against the passport: the spelling on the ticket must match.
A step-by-step timeline
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Request | Dates, route, numbers and any flexibility go to the airline or agency |
| 2. Fare and option | The airline quotes a group fare and an option date |
| 3. Approval and payment | Sign-off and payment before the option expires |
| 4. Name list | Pegasus: by the option date. Turkish Airlines: 30 days before the flight |
| 5. Ticketing | Tickets are issued, one per passenger |
| 6. Late changes | Pegasus: free name changes until 48 hours before departure |
On busy dates seats go to whoever asks first. Around Turkish public holidays, school breaks and trade fair weeks, send the request as soon as your dates are fixed.
Is a group fare always cheaper?
No. In individual sales the cheapest fare class usually covers only a few seats. Search for ten people one by one and the first seats may be cheap while the rest come from a higher fare. A group fare is one price for every seat, but on a given day it can sit above the cheapest individual fare. Compare both on the same day. Our article on refundable and promotional fares explains how fare classes work.
Teams and events
Football teams coming to a training camp in Türkiye can leave flights, hotel and coaches to our group's football camp team. If your group also needs a venue and programme, Seda Mice meetings runs the event while we handle the flights.
Frequently asked questions
How many people do I need for a group booking?
Ten, with both Turkish Airlines and Pegasus. Pegasus quotes up to 25 online and larger groups through its request form.
Can I change names on a group booking?
With Pegasus, free of charge until 48 hours before departure. With Turkish Airlines the conditions depend on the booking, so ask the agency that issued the tickets.
What if someone in the group does not travel?
Once tickets are issued, that passenger's fare rules on cancellation and no-shows apply. Pegasus cancels the passenger by splitting them from the main booking. On most fares, cancelling before the flight costs less than not turning up.
Can some of the group return on a different date?
With Pegasus, after ticketing the passenger is split from the main booking and pays any fare difference and penalty. Moving to a cheaper flight brings no refund.
Is baggage different on group tickets?
It depends on the fare or package. Pegasus sells group tickets as Super Eco, Eco or Advantage packages, and the allowance follows the package.
We are an authorised agent of Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AJet and SunExpress, so one request reaches all four. Send your dates, route and numbers through the form on this page, and see our international flights and domestic flights pages for how we work.
