If you are sending a team from your office in Türkiye to a trade fair in Dubai, most of them will need a visa. Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the United Arab Emirates as requiring a visa for holders of the ordinary Turkish passport, the burgundy one most employees carry. Holders of special, service and diplomatic passports can enter for up to 90 days without one. A fair or a client meeting does not change this. What it does change is the timing, because hotels near the fair fill up long before the visa becomes urgent.
Who needs a visa, by passport type
| Turkish passport | UAE entry |
|---|---|
| Ordinary (burgundy) | Visa needed before travel |
| Special (green) | Visa-free for up to 90 days |
| Service (grey) | Visa-free for up to 90 days |
| Diplomatic (black) | Visa-free for up to 90 days |
The exemption follows the passport, not the job title. A company owner with a green passport may travel visa-free while the sales staff beside them at the stand need visas. Check each traveller's passport rather than assuming. Entry rules can change, and we check the Ministry's list again before each trip.
Colleagues with other nationalities follow the UAE rules for their own passport. Many nationalities can enter without a visa or get one on arrival, while others need one in advance. ICP, the UAE federal immigration authority, is the source to check. Send us the passports and we will tell you which travellers need an application.
Which visa for a trade fair or business meeting
Turkish citizens on ordinary passports usually travel to fairs and meetings on a visit visa. It is electronic, so nothing is stuck in the passport. According to ICP, a visit visa allows a stay of 30, 60 or 90 days. A week at a fair fits comfortably into 30 days.
A sponsor in the UAE applies for the visit visa. ICP says tourist visa applications go through a licensed tourism establishment. Other visa types exist where an employer, an organisation or an event organiser is the sponsor. For a Dubai visa we submit the application on your behalf and choose the sponsor route that suits the purpose of the trip.
A visit visa is not a work permit. Staff who will actually work for a business in Dubai need a separate permit.
Documents for the application
ICP lists these for a tourist visa:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months after the travel date
- Colour passport photo on a white background
- Health insurance
- Return ticket
Because the application is electronic, we only need clear scans of each passport and photo. The insurance should cover the whole stay.
How early to apply
ICP says a complete application is processed within 48 hours and the visa arrives by email. The real bottleneck is hotels and flights. During the big fair weeks Dubai hotels fill up and prices rise, so plan backwards from the hotel.
Gulfood, for example, runs from 15 to 19 March 2027. A relaxed plan for a fair like this is to book the hotel block months ahead and start visas two or three weeks before the flight. That leaves time to fix a missing document. The rest of the planning is in our guide to trade fair travel abroad.
Getting to the venues and where to stay
Dubai's large fairs use two venues. Dubai World Trade Centre is in the city on Sheikh Zayed Road. Dubai Exhibition Centre is at Expo City in the south of the city, next to Expo City Dubai station, the last stop on the Red Line of the metro. Some fairs, Gulfood among them, are spread across both.
Check which venue your fair uses before you book a hotel. The two are far apart. Stay central for the World Trade Centre and further south for Expo City, and the daily commute gets shorter. For flights from Türkiye see our international flights page.
Frequently asked questions
Does a green passport holder need a visa for Dubai?
No. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, special passport holders are visa-free for stays of up to 90 days.
Is there a separate trade fair visa?
There is no fair visa that a visitor applies for directly, and most delegates travel on a visit visa. The UAE has introduced an event visa sponsored by the organiser, but that route is opened by the fair itself and announced to participants.
Is the visa valid in Abu Dhabi and the other emirates?
Yes. The visa covers the whole of the United Arab Emirates, so you can attend a fair in Dubai and hold meetings in Abu Dhabi.
Can the stand build crew use the same visa?
That depends on the work and the sponsor. Staff greeting visitors at the stand and technicians building it may not be in the same position. Read the visa section of the exhibitor manual and send us a description of the work before you apply.
What happens if a visa is refused?
You can apply again. Whether a reason is given and what happens to the fee depend on the sponsor route, and we go through this with you before applying.
Send us the passport types in your team and the fair dates. We will separate who needs a visa, match the hotel to the venue and fit the applications into your timeline. Document lists for other countries are on our visa services page, and our trade fair travel service is on the international trade fairs page.
